Fisherman's Point on Haigler Creek

We have recently started throwing knives when we are camping. Denver has one knife that we throw, but he has been pretty stingy about sharing it with Dillon. So, I decided that that would be a good Chritmas present for everyone. Their own set of knives. I've ordered three sets so far, but of course I couldn't break them out for this trip since Christmas is still two months away. Luckily Del found a used set at a thrift store a few weeks ago so we brought them along and Dillon was able to practice all he wanted.

Del and I had to get a self portrait in since I didn't take any pictures of people last time.

On Sunday the boys and Del hiked down stream. They thought it was so beautiful that I needed to go. So, the next day I went and Denver tried to kill me. This creek is in a canyon and the water is really low so we could walk along the creek in most places crossing back and forth though. In one place it opened up and there was this 3 foot tall grass growing. I'm not sure what you call it but the grass is  the same material as palm fronds but only an inch or so wide. It was growing all over this area and there was a precariously placed log going across it. Dillon walked across the log and I said to Denver "I'm supposed to walk on that?!" he said  "unless you want to walk through all that grass" giving me a look like I was stupid if I did, and then he walked safely across the log. So of course, I climbed up on the log giving into the "son pressure". They were both standing on the other end "to help stabilize the log", but no sooner did I have both feet on it when it moved suddenly and I fell off into that super tall grass. It did help cushion me though. I landed on my side and my neck got whiplash cracking all the vertebrae in it. It's been almost a week and it's still a little sore. They didn't laugh at me though so I guess that's good.

A view of our hike down stream.

Another picture of our hike down stream. On our hike back to camp we stopped and made lunch. We had bean burritos. I bought some refried bean flakes that just need hot water to reconstitute. Del brought his little homemade stove, fuel and surviver man cup to heat the water. We layed the tortillas on a rock in the sun to warm them up. I broke out the taco bell hot sauce packets and added the hot water, salt, and pepper to the beans. Then you wait a couple of minutes and presto yummy beans. Danelle thinks refried bean flakes taste like dog food but she aways makes her own beans from scratch. I think they taste pretty darn good though! And if you are using them for food storage they would be a lot faster and easier to prepare if you didn't have any power.

This picture is from our last day right before we hiked out.

Denver made a sundial with some cool rocks he found.

These two pictures are also from our trip down stream.

Dillon caught a rainbow trout big enough to keep and eat. Del also caught a keeper later that day at a different place on the creek near our camp site. They cleaned the fish and then cooked them on our hot dog roasters over the open fire. They were quite delicious. We had a great time. The only thing that could of made it better was if Morgan had been there. Well, she could of ruined it too. Love Monica xoxo
